Vanessa has her picks from the Eco Couture Collection.

“With the ever-present need to consider the environment and the impact we have on it, many brides are embracing the green trend and choosing eco-friendly options for their wedding; And what is a simpler, more immediate way for a bride to contribute to the environment than to purchase an eco wedding dress!  Now, ‘green’ wedding gowns may have you thinking of hippie threads made of hemp, but the gowns we currently have in-store are anything but.

We are proud and excited to announce Adele Wechsler’s latest collection, Eco Couture.  Like all her creations, these gowns feature Adele’s distinctive style of innovative and whimsically romantic designs in elegant and modern silhouettes.  They continue the superb craftsmanship, fine attention to detail and couture-quality Adele Wechsler is known for, but with an eco-conscious twist.  The collection features exquisite wedding gowns in certified organic fabrications such as hemp & silk blends and vegetable-dyed silks, and are made using non-outsourced production under fair trade practices.  As usual, the gowns also have Adele’s signature, organic details and thoughtful embellishments of floral blooms, subtle beading, organza streamers and other elements inspired by nature.  The gowns both aesthetically and intrinsically pay homage to the environment.  Eco Couture, as Adele puts it, is “for the bride who cares about the world in which she lives.”

A wonderful thing to remember about Adele Wechsler is that her gowns may be custom cut and crafted to the bride’s measurements for a perfectly-fitted couture creation.  Adele also makes it possible for brides to contribute directly to the design process of their gown by customizing certain elements like the neckline, sleeves, or detail.  Adding a lace bolero or silk shrug to match your gown is a popular option.  We have a swatch book with different colors, embellishments and suggested design options that encourage and enable brides to customize their gown to suit their own unique tastes.

Choosing an eco-wedding gown is an easy way to employ ‘green’ practices, lessen our impact on the environment, and further enhance the significance of your wedding.    If you are interested in having an eco-wedding or want to incorporate ‘green’ products at your special event, our wedding coordinators have many ideas from using eco-friendly custom invites & favors to composing a menu that will inspire you and keep your ecological footprint small.

It was hard to narrow down just a few selections because the whole collection is so beautiful and each gown is so different, but here are my picks for Eco-Couture:

Eco-Couture Blossom

Eco-Couture Blossom

1.    Blossom – A vegetable-dyed silk strapless gown with a draped, waist-cinching bodice that empties into a full-gathered skirt. The twisted sash waistband is adorned with organic elements of twisted organza stems and silk leaves & blossoms.  I love how the gentle curve of the sweetheart neckline and full silhouette are indicative of a blossoming flower; The color, claystone, is a beautiful muted taupe that adds to the organic feel. And best of all, this gown has side pockets!!  How cool is that?
Adele also offers a matching optional shrug, as well as silk blossoms for the hair, to complete the ensemble. The look is carefree and dramatic at the same time.

Eco-Couture Fern

Eco-Couture Fern

2.    Fern - This gown is full of gorgeous detail you need to see first-hand.  The vegetable-dyed silk and organic detail makes it a perfect choice for the sophisticated eco-conscious bride who wants to add an element of romance to her wedding.  An asymmetric twist of silk envelopes the subtle strapless top to create a fluid, yet dramatic neckline. The sensuous trumpet silhouette of Fern is offset by the delicate detail of handmade leaves, blooms, and stems that seemingly sprout from the wrapped vines, and continue on to adorn the grand sweeping train.

Eco-Couture Flora

Eco-Couture Flora

3.  Flora – This strapless number is made of hemp and silk blend fabric that imparts an atypical matte texture, to provide the perfect backdrop for a scattering of satin flowers with pearl-centers throughout the skirt.  The free-form yoke gives it an innocent and soft feel, and the empire waist is adorned with a stream of twisted stems and blooms for a bit of whimsy.  Adele says that the random placement of flowers & leaves on the skirt are supposed to leave the impression of a walk through the forest.  This gown is the ideal choice for the eco-bride who wants to look fresh and pretty on her special day.

Eco-Couture Sunray

Eco-Couture Sunray

4.    Sunray – I love the simple detailing on this updated version of a classic sheath gown.  Pleating and draping on the sweetheart neckline elevates this creation to another level.   I love when architectural elements or techniques are applied in fashion, and this gown is a perfect example.  I like how the construction of strips of silk shantung and pleated organza create a clean, linear pattern that seem to emulate the sun’s rays, and how the sheer organza bands around the hem and detailed bustle train soften the look.

Eco-Couture Twiggy

Eco-Couture Twiggy

5.    Twiggy – Simple and sweet would perfectly describe this hemp and silk blend gown.  Brides looking for a short wedding dress will be happy to have this strapless number as an option.  It is perfectly suited to go from a wedding on the beach to a fancy reception; And for brides getting married in the hot Hawaii summer, they will undoubtedly be able to look their best and keep their cool in this flirty gown.  The satin band detailing also provides a nice contrast against the matte textured fabric.   I’m a huge fan of pleating and the knife pleated yoke and hem that dips longer in the back is sure to add subtle drama to this sweet pick.

If you’re looking for accessories to perfectly complement your Adele gown, I recommend the fresh and inventive styles from Tiger Lilly, Winner of Brides Magazine’s Brides Best 2007.  Tiger Lilly offers couture, hand-crafted bridal accessories and jewelry for the contemporary bride.  Their pieces are hand made-to-order, and although their aesthetic ranges from vintage to glam to beach bride and beyond, the designs are always beautiful and inspiring.  Their signature is the convertible piece, like the Fiona, which serves as a choker as well as a tiara.  You can request a custom color, length, size and metal on most jewelry designs and they also offer a custom design service, where you can collaborate with the brand’s designer Mandy Greenan in creating a special piece to suit your personal style.

One of the best things about Tiger Lilly is that you can easily wear their designs again, after your wedding, prom, or special event.  The couture-quality of materials, craftsman-ship and creative design all combine to create a lasting piece of jewelry you can wear for any occasion.  We love Tiger Lilly and hope you do too!”

THREAD Gowns in Honolulu

October 17, 2008

Once again we bring Vanessa’s Picks – this time from the exquisite THREAD collection. These gowns have arrived in Honolulu and are available at our Modern Pacific Weddings’ boutique. You can see these gowns debut at E&O Trading Company (Ward Center) at our MUSE event this Sunday from 3 to 5 pm – RSVP to muse@modwed.com or ring (808) 737-0638.

Now for Vanessa’s Picks ~

“We are absolutely thrilled to be carrying Thread, a young and contemporary wedding & bridal line from New York City, which has been enjoying a huge success with stylish brides and bridesmaids across the nation. The buzzworthy designs have been featured in Instyle Weddings, Town& Country Weddings, and Modern Bride.

As mentioned in the previous post, in addition to showcasing an array of gowns from various bridal designers, we will also be debuting the new line by Thread, at our fashion event called Muse, held at E&O this coming Sunday; And with the label’s charming collection of flowy, diaphanous gowns inspired by goddesses of yesteryear, never before has our event been more aptly titled.

Thread’s line of wedding and bridesmaid dresses is brimming with chic, slimmed down silhouettes in fluid chiffon fabric which reflect the enduring trend of Greco-Roman inspired garb that has transitioned onto many runways for Spring 2009. We’re not saying you can’t have the fairy-tale princess ball gown you’ve always envisioned ever since you were 6 years old, but for those fashion-conscious brides who long for an alternative to the traditional poufy tulle gown, Thread is the perfect match.

With Thread’s chic creations that are meant to be worn again after the wedding, bridesmaids can also break from tradition in not having to relegate their dress to the corners of their closet after the big event. The dresses are fit for all occasions; Think cocktail parties and less-formal affairs. And don’t worry, Thread’s assortment of styles are available in short, cocktail, and floor-skimming lengths to allow for you and your whole bridal party to put on your red shoes and maybe not dance the blues, as David Bowie puts it, but you get the idea.

Thread’s collection also offers many strapless styles that provide an ideal excuse for women to show-off their shoulders and collarbone, and their subtle details of ruching and duchess satin trim impart femininity without unnecessary frou or flourish.

It is for the romantic-minded woman with a modern sensibility. A modern-day goddess, if you will.

Here are my top 5 picks from Thread:

McClean- For wedding dresses from this line, we have two noteworthy styles in-store. McClean is a cheeky confection of ruffled silk accented by an organza sash under the bust. The ruffles add whimsy and texture to this empire-waisted gown. It is for the fun-loving girl who still wants to look elegant at her wedding.

Venus- My other wedding dress pick stands as a sophisticated column gown featuring a gathered empire waist bejeweled with organza-covered gems. Brides will literally channel their inner goddess in this striking statement in angelic chiffon.

Baily- This full-length frock is a perfectly pretty choice for bridesmaids, and is also available in ivory for the bride. It has a gathered V-neck with spaghetti straps and ruched waist. I love the innocent pink color shown, called Cherub—just one of the shades comprising an impressive rainbow of tasteful color options available from Thread. The palette ranges from soft sherbet-hues to bright pops of color and deep, sophisticated tones. Color ruled the Spring 2009 runways, and I don’t recommend your bridal party to look like a circus troupe, but having a colorful bridal party is a delightful way of adding freshness to your occasion and incorporating an increasingly popular wedding trend.

Anna- With its ruched waistband trimmed in duchess satin, and a universally-flattering strapless neckline, this gathered full-length gown is a great look for everyone. The silk chiffon lends a light-hand and comfort to create a soft and pretty effect. Also available in ivory, and many other colors.

Kambry- My last pick is a full length empire waist dress with V neck and straps in a charming peachy-pink & mauve print. It is also available in the sunflower print. Both girly and bohemian, this breezy silhouette is perfectly suited for weddings on the sand.”
